CANCELED EXHIBITION ART OF EMOTION

ZAGREB, May 3 2010.

On Wednesday, March 28, editorial of BLUR magazine received a notice that Jewish Film Festival Zagreb is canceling photography exhibition Art of Emotion that was supposed to be realized during the festival in the period May 23-29. Official explanation was given by Nataša Popović, director of the festival, and it was: “After collecting and reviewing applied photographs, members of the panel that represent Jewish Film Festival Zagreb made a decision how the works, although of great quality, did not satisfy the theme of the competition. Therefore, unfortunately, we are informing all participants that exhibition Art of Emotion will not be realized during the Festival. We would like to thank all the participants and wish them luck in their future work.’

Theme of free interpretation of emotions that arise from the concept The Righteous among the Nations, where the emphasis is put on equality, kindness, humanity, friendship, justice and/or respect among people regardless to their age, nationality, religion or sex, was completely approved from the side of the Festival. Furthermore, it was agreed that the works don’t have to include any Jewish subjects while the usage of symbolism was allowed.

Members of the panel from BLUR magazine have chosen 20 photographs which, according to our opinion, have successfully captured the given theme, This is why we believe that the selected authors, as well as all participants of the competition, are unjustifiably damaged.

All selected works BLUR magazine will publish in its 18th edition in June 2010 in order to justify its selection and attitude towards the cancellation of the exhibition. We would like to thank all participants and apologize for caused inconvenience.
