BIOGRAPHY:

Maja Jokić (24), of Zagreb, although already with a BA in economy, has the ambition to become a professional photographer, which is why she enrolled in the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb to study camera. She started photographing actively 2 years ago, when she signed up for a photography course at the Fotoklub Zagreb. Since then, Maja participated in several joint shows, of which the most recent was ‘Zagreb, then and now’ at the Tošo Dabac Archive. She also won several prizes on different projects of Fotoklub Zagreb, and this year her photo was published also by the French photography magazine ‘Photo’. The art historian Koraljka Kociančić says about her work: ‘The focus of interest of this young author is the city in all its generally recognized forms – malls, underpasses, shop windows, tram stops, streets (more precisely the sidewalks), passages… People are here nameless and timeless passers-by, caught by the eye of the camera in their everyday ‘rituals’ of coffee-drinking, going to work, riding trams, pensive and hurried, all the way to the persons ultimately reduced to silhouettes, almost shadows, who at the moment the shutter clicks are only passing in front of the camera and remain recorded as an inseparable ingredient of the fabric of the city….’. The show from the PUNI KRUG programme is also Maja’s first solo show.

On PUNI KRUG programme: ‘The project is perfectly planned and implemented, and I’m grateful that I can be a part of it with my contribution. I really admire the people who are organizing this, I admire them for even having the will to do something like this, and that we finally have something like this here.’
